What Is Involuntary Manslaughter?
You may have seen the news that Alec Baldwin was charged with involuntary manslaughter stemming from an accidental shooting on a movie set. In Wisconsin, the equivalent charge is Homicide by Negligent Handling of a Dangerous Weapon. In a worst case scenario, it is a Class C Felony punishable by up to 40 years in prison and a fine up to $100,000. In our DUI practice, we commonly encounter charges of Homicide by Negligent Operation of a Vehicle, which can also be charged as a Class C Felony.
